Apple Insider is today reporting that Apple plans to introduce a multitasking solution via its upcoming 4.0 software update. According to AppleInsider’s sources, Apple has developed the means to bring multitasking to the iPhone, and with that has solved the three biggest stumbling blocks that have prevented multitasking from happening earlier, namely resource conservation, battery life and security.
AppleInsider reports that contrary to popular opinion, Apple’s current iPhone 3.x software doesn’t actually have any problem with multitasking, pointing out that the device’s phone, SMS, email, iPod, voice recorder, Nike+ and other apps can all work quite happily in the background when the user opens another app, but it must be an Apple app, not a third-party title that has come from the App Store. Well, this could all soon change, as according to the AppleInsider report, the next Apple iPhone OS update will most certainly have “new ways” of multitasking and syncing, although specifics are a little thin on the ground still.
AppleInsider says that they have every confidence in the accuracy of their sources on the matter, who they say have a “proven track record” when it comes to predicting Apple’s next move. Roll on the launch of OS 4.0!
