Wow, Apple is really becoming a kinder company. There were very many complaints of the fact you can not make custom ringtones in iTunes; you are forced to buy them in the iTunes Store.
Well, this is surprisingly included in the new 1.1.2 iPhone firmware and iTunes 7.5 combination. Just take a 30-second or less .m4a music file and rename it to .m4r. Then, double click it and it will be added into the Ringtones section in iTunes. Now, just sync your new ringtone with your iPhone.

I tried doing this but it didnt work
can you please tell mw which converter i need to use to make my mp3’s into m4a.
and then am i supposed just to add the track to my labrary or drop it into my ringtones window in my Itunes????

Sorry Mike, I wrote down the wrong instructions. You actually have to double click on the renamed file to add it to iTunes Ringtones, not drag it.

hey i tried but when i was syncing in progress… it says the file canot be transfered over cause iphone does not support the format… the song is in my ringtone list in itunes… why does tis happen?

Are you using firmware 1.1.2? Also, make sure to download the latest version of iTunes.

yar… i am usin 1.1.2 and i am using itunes 7.5 and i duno why i does not allow me to listen on my iphone it says the song could not be copied over as it cannot be played on iphone den what format not supported blah blah
