Dual, a car audio company that has offered crappy quality components budget minded components for car audio applications has debuted an in-dash unit that will support the iPhone, literally. It will feature an actual dock for your iPhone. I dunno folks, this sounds a little hokey to me. I don’t know that I want my iPhone hanging off of my “budget conscious” head unit, knowing that my phone cost about twice as much as that of the head unit.
The XML8110 will retail for around $99. I don’t mean to be an elitist here, but if I am going to buy things, I like to save and spend a little more, and only have to buy them once. On top of that, the sheer logistics of the unit’s dock don’t seem like they would really work that well. The dock on my alarm clock seems a little dodgy, much less the dock on this thing that is supposed to hang out of the dash of a vehicle that will be traveling at highway speeds and performing evasive maneuvers in traffic. You be the judge.
