iPhone release date time

Im sure by now we all know the iPhone will be released on June 29th (only a few weeks to go ), but it seems Jobs is being even more precise by mentioning at the WWDC conference that it will actually go on sale at 6PM.

I dont think he mentioned a timezone but atleast there won't be midnight store openings.

I just talked to my local Cingular/AT&T store and they confirmed the 6pm EST (which is where I am, EST) sale time. They are closing the store at 5pm, and reopening at 6pm. (Probably to set up all the iPhone displays, etc.)

She also said she has no idea how many units her store will get but "demand will probably exceed the supply."

I wonder what time the queues will start forming, but yeah this is a much better idea than the classic midnight launch scenerio.

I think I'll leave work maybe a half hour to an hour early and get down there at 4/4:30.

I spoke to the rep at the local store in the mall today, She said that they would go on sale at 10AM EST. She added that the 6PM time was only for Apple Stores.

The contract price quoted was $39.95 for the 450 minute phone plan PLUS $39.95 for unlimited data. You must take BOTH.

Okay I just made some phone call surveys here around Grand Rapids, MI and this is what I found:

3 stores had no idea.
1 Mall-Store said they would be closing at 5pm to set up displays and iPhone would go on sale at 6pm.
1 Store said they would be closing at 4:30pm to set up displays and iPhone would go on sale at 6pm - data plans will be $39.95 and are required. (This store said they just found this information out today around noon.)

I was also told that since I'd be a new customer, I can come in anytime between now and launch to get the credit check and such out of the way to speed things up on launch day.

Maybe Ill have to call around tomorrow and see if they know anything about existing customers. I hope so.

Engadget (via BGR via SPI) has latest info regarding AT&T stores on the 29th.

BGR has discovered that "all AT&T stores will be closing up at 4:30PM" while employees set up those cutesy iPhone displays, toss back a few Red Bulls, and hopefully receive their shipments from the (potentially armored) trucks. At 6:00PM, either the doors will open back up or the fanatics will force their way in, and the outlets could stay open "as late as midnight" to satisfy the demand.
