With all the iPhone's features and little touches aside, the iPhone is fundamentally bought for use as a phone. So how well do you think it actually functions as one?
The guys over at comsumer reports aren't too impressed calling the phone "undistinguished at best" when it comes to call voice quality. They also highlight other factors like lack of voice activated dialling and no easy method for accessing frequently called numbers. What do you iphone owners think? Link

You know, I never used that "press and hold down a number" to speeddial anyways. Personally I think iPhone does quite well as a phone - even if it is an extra keypress to get into the phone app.
As for sound quality - it's gonna change for each individual person. Unless they did actual metered sound quality tests, it's going to change from person to person. At least two people have told me I sound "clearer" since getting my iPhone. Is that the phone, or AT&T instead of Verizon, or both? Dunno, but I sound "better" which makes me think that iPhone is a good phone. ![]()

There is a "favorites list" for frequently called numbers... I've got everyone that I would usually call in a week on that list and it's a one-button deal.
I've heard mixed reports... I was using a V3 Razr (first gen) prior to the iPhone. I've had several people say I sound muffled, while others said I've been very clear. I do notice that if I try to talk at all while driving; this is in both my Jeep (no top/doors) or my modified Festiva (loud engine and exhaust) I have a very hard time hearing the person on the other end. I've got volume up to the max. I did notice that with the headphones and mic that come with the setup, it works MUCH better, although the person I was talking to today said they got a lot of wind noise from me with that (again, top and doors were off the Jeep, so that's to be expected)... Overall, I'm very pleased with it. |

My GF keeps telling me that she can hear an echo of herself when she is talking to me from her cell phone, and the other day my mother said the same thing. Is anywone else having this problem?

Sound quality is okay. I had a Samsung D807 before and sound quality was excellent. I miss how I could easily call anyone through its voice dialing option from my bluetooth, or by simply pressing a speed dial button.
