I am having problems getting new text messages to alert me that i have them. Just won't do it. Also have the ringer all the way up and still not loud enough. I work outside so it is really impossible to hear. Any tidbits would be greatly appreciated.

My right speaker is dead and my audio is week too. I have to take mine in to get it replaced, hope you did not get screwed like me.

The first thing I would do is a reload of the OS. This can be done in iTunes in the "Summery" tab on the button "Restore". That most likely will fix the issue unless it is a hardware problem like mine...

I don't think this is an issue that's calling for a "Restore"... I think that the phone just doesn't have the right tones to make it loud enough to hear.

There are insturctions our there that tell you how to access the ringtones area (along with system tones) if you "jailbreak" your phone. You could probably create your own custom LOUD tones for that purpose.

For me? I keep my phone in my pocket so I can feel it vibrate.

No, the tone is loud enough that you can hear it in another room with the TV on (unless you are a heavy metal fan). I can hear mine, although it is only a ping.

He stated that it "does not" give an audible acknowledgment. This would warrant a restore of the OS. It will be the first thing the tech will ask to do anyway, so might as well get ahead of him. Not saying this WILL fix it, but a high probability. At least you will know it is something with the phone and not the OS. Remember the phone is 99% software and 1% hardware.

Mine was all hardware and had to be scrapped. Oh yea, there is only a 14 day return policy, didn't know that did you (I know I didn't). I got it in under the wire. So if you are having problems after this date I would do all I can with the OS since it will have to be sent back to Steve for repair...

Actually, read his post again... It says: still not loud enough

That means he's getting sound, it's just not loud enough to be heard outside (where he works).

I don't think your phone was broken... There is only 1 external speaker; the other side is a mic. And FWIW, my AT&T sales rep that sold me my iPhone told me about the return policy AND the 10% restocking fee.
