Yesterday my mail, phone, safari, and ipod "buttons" quit working. Everything else works fine however it pretty well renders the phone useless. I tried to do a factory restore but still no luck. Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Sounds like a defect. I had one when my speaker went bad and had to return it because it was a defect in manufacturing….

Well it could be, but it just happeed and I have had my phone from the beginning. I called apple yesterday. They told me to send it in. So they sent me a prepaid box to send it to them in today, and for 29.99 they sent me a loaner phone. We'll see if they can fix it.

launch - Didn't we clarify that you're phone wasn't defective... It's just that you thought the mic was a speaker?!

chad - that's weird... What happens when you get into another program and need to use something at the bottom? Can you unlock the phone when you bring it back from sleep? That slider bar is right in the same area... That would seem like if that is working, it's not the screen or the sensors themselves...

Did you modify the phone at all? Jailbreak, etc?

simon the slider bar works but thats it. in other programs the bottom is unresponsive. no modifications. all i know is apple is supposed to be fixing it. i'm sure i wont be getting a explanation.

NO, my speaker was defective and was replaced by Apple!!! I was only woundering why the other speaker was not working and found out it was a mic. That did not take away from the one that was working, was not working at 100% capacity....

chad - It just doesn't make any sense, that's all... If the slider unlock bar would work, then why doesn't anything else? The sensors must be doing something to unlock it.

An explanation would be nice to hear... This is the first I've heard of something like this.

Maybe you were pressing too lightly? I really don't know, never happened to me.
