According to technojunkie, they've contacted a Cingular store employee who let slip that the iphone on its own with no airtime contract will retail at $899 for the 4GB and $999 for the 8GB.

that's quite a junk of change!

I don't think you can take the avergae Cingular store worker as concrete evidence - im sure i read a few days back that another cingular worker denied the iphone even existed haha

For just the handset that's what? about double the estimated airtime deal price. It could be possible i suppose im just not sure why anybody would go down that route
