I live in the US, Washington State. I have no plans to go overseas, and I heard some crazy stories about crazy phone bills that had to do with roaming charges and background processes running that users were not aware of.

My question is simple. As a U.S. User do I have to look out for any pitfalls when using AT&T, because I heard that they are really bad. I use Verizon now, and I guess they are the lesser of all the evil TelCos, but am just wondering what it has been for you users out there who have received a bill or two and your overall experiance with the iPhone.

Please let me know how your U.S. experiance had been. I will want the voice features, checking email, browsing, youtube, why not, thanks for all the advice in advance.

I've had no extra charges on my bill for anything... Surfed the net a lot, e-mail checks every 15 minutes, etc...

You should be fine. If you're worried, there are hacks out there to unlock the iPhone for other carriers...

Are these hacks legal, because I know like for example when you use a hack with say Xbox 360 or mods, one will be banned from the xbox live network, which makes the console useless for network play.

What about performance of the cell phone, are there any issues with it, battery life ?

The havent charged me any extra. Roaming I can understand, some areas have no coverage. Although, I have never been roaming with AT&T even on out of state trips.

My understanding is that these outragous bills were from people who went overseas with there cell phone.
