It seems that iPhone hackers are very close to cracking the latest 1.1.1 firmware update. With reports that they've successfully managed to run executed code on the device.
Apparently this is made possible thanks to an old Mobile Safari TIFF exploit. the opening a specificall written TIFF image will cause Mobile Safari to crash due to a buffer overflow which will in turn allow for arbitrary code execustion. It's the same explout that was used over a year ago to crack the firmware of the Sony PSP. |
