Looks like we should see 7.3 this week, if this screenshot from Apple means anything:

Maybe there WILL be ringtones!

Here's an interesting pic taken back MacWorld - note the Ringtones tab in iTunes.

It's believed that the new iTunes 7.3 update will allow you to convert any song that is available on iTunes into a ringtone with the "Make into Ringtone" feature for $0.99 a track.

The latest Apple FAQ page for iPhone also shows that extra tab.

No ringtones in the newest version that's posted... I'm eagerly waiting for that to become available.
