A company called Truphone claim to have developed some beta software that allows the iphone to make voice over ip calls to other users.
Recently demoed at DEMOfall 07 in San Diego, Truphone CEO James Tagg was able to call another mobile phone using only an IP connection and without breaking the SIM lock aswell. Here's a video demo:
