My current Nokia cellphone allows me to pair with a laptop device and use the phone as like a modem to allow my laptop to access the internet.

I've been looking over the iphone specs and cant seem to find a mention of such a feature? anyone know for sure?

the technology is definitely there, i guess it depends on AT&T but im sure not having this feature will impact sales especially overseas.

According to page 1 of this MacWorld Article:

"One thing Apple did tell us is that you won’t be able to use the iPhone as a wireless Bluetooth modem for a laptop on the road, for example (at least that’s the current plan)"

I certainly hope the "current plan" changes. While not a major strike for me on this one, it's certainly hurts. No 3G, no modem-ness, no 3rd party apps.. (all supposedly, I know, but...)

If its not a standard feature it will be added by hackers at some point in time (just like the apple tv).

It wont take long for people to exploit that kind of thing.

Thanks for that Kender, that is a little disappointing but hopefully given some time they'll be a way of implementing this.

Guess it's a 'wait and see' thing

A full browser running on EDGE isn't a very good idea.

The Bluetooth on the iPhone is completely useless when paired with a Mac. The iPhone is only programed to interact with Bluetooth accessories such as a headset. At this current point in time it seems impossible to pair the iPhone with a computer to use as a modem.
