Apple Not Ruling Out 3rd Party iPhone App Development
Notes from todays Apple shareholder meeting reveal that Apple haven't completely made their mind up regarding 3rd party application development for the iPhone.

Jobs did acknowledge that the company is still struggling to decide if third-party developers will be able to create software that will run on the iPhone. It’s a decision Apple “is wrestling with,” according to Jobs.

Apple has come under some criticism in the past regarding the 3rd party development, with one Microsoft employee labelling the iPhone a 'closed device'

Steve Jobs has previously stated that while you will be able to purchase and install additional applications on the iPhone, that this would be limited and in a "controlled environment"

i think it would be a big mistake for apple to shut their doors to the app development on the iphone.
