iPhone 2.0 backups syncYou may have noticed that iPhone syncing with firmware 2.0 does tend to take a very long time, this is partly down to the automatic iPhone backup process.

The process enables iTunes to take a complete snapshot of the iPhone applications you have installed along with the application documents and library data.

If you are desperate for a solution to cut the waiting time then the only real option you are left with is to disable the backup process entirely. The instructions below walk you through how to do that, but please note that this is a risky option as it will mean you will no longer have a phone backup to restore you iPhone to in the future - should you need to.

This hack (for Mac) below will change a hidden setting in the iTunes preferences that will force it to skip the backup process.

  • Quit iTunes.

  • Open Terminal.app

  • Copy and paste this in, then hit return:

  • defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

  • Open iTunes

  • Plug in your iPhone (running iPhone firmware 2.0 or iPhone 3G) and sync.

Is there a similar hack for the PC version of iTunes?

Thanks,
Mike

cool, but I'm pretty sure waiting for the phone to backup is worth the wait, but I could always be wrong
