One of the main drawbacks of the iPhone SDK is that applications are not permitted to communicate with 3rd party hardware, which ultimately blocks the possibility of using a game controller addon.
This may all be due to change however, according to Touch Arcade the popular Apple accessory company Belkin are currently working on an unknown game controller for the iPhone device.
The advertisement above mentions using JoyPod specifically for the App Store games, leading us to believe that it will be supported by the SDK.
It also mentions:
- 8 buttons total (6 on the front)
- Audio output
- Dock connector for power and syncing
