You can now purchase factory unlocked iPhone 3G handsets from Buy.com for $799.99. From what we can tell it seems that Buy.com have been buying up iPhones from foreign countries where the handsets are locked down a specific carrier. According to the product descriptions on the website, the unlocked iPhone 3G phones will support software updates (something that software unlocked iphones dont), and are covered under standard Apple warranties.
