AT&T Suggest iChat Update?
AT&T last week began sending out iPhone surveys in order to collect feedback on both the device and the overall user experince.

One of the sections however asked, "Now, based on the scale below, please rate the EDGE data network performance when using each of the following applications on your Apple iPhone."

iChat was one of the applications listed by Apple. iChat is a much wanted application for the iPhone but is not currently available for the device.

Is this just a mistake on the survey writers part? Or is it a precursor to an upcoming software update with iChat included?

I think it's pretty much a given that we will see iChat on the iPhone. The track I have been hearing is this:

1.1 update: Ringtones and bugfixes.
1.2 update: iChat and bugfixes.

This is just my opinion, but if AT&T allows ichat to be used on the phone, won't that kill a lot of their text messaging revenue? I mean, if I can use iChat opposed to paying an extra $20 a month for unlimited text, I am gonna go with iChat.
I know not everyone uses iChat, but all the people I would normally text do! Hopefully this feature will save me $20/per month!

Yeah, perhaps. However (in my case) I see using both. I have friends during the workday that I can't iChat with - as their work blocks it. However, SMS works just fine - or if you need to SMS someone from a movie theater, etc.

I dropped the 1500 extra SMS messages off my account. Turns out over 200 is 5 cents per - so I can save money. I averaged 220-250 SMS messages a month on Verizon, so.. It's an extra $2.50 instead of $10. If my usage goes up, I'll change my mind, but...

Really? It's only 5 cents a message over 200? I know that prior to going with the iPhone, I was paying 15 cents with Cingular/AT&T

AT&T doesn't have much say in what iPhone gets or doesn't. Apple calls all the shots for it and if they release an upgrade that offers iChat then AT&T will sit back and watch.
