AT&T To Offer $40 data-free iPhone plan?
It appears that AT&T may be offering reduced monthly plan for customers threatening to cancel their service agreement due to poor internet performance.

According to customers who've requested to cancel their service citing poor internet speeds have been offered the choice of a special low-cost plan. The low-cost $40 plan is a reduction from the $60 minimum in exchange for dropping the unlimited data plan and SMS texting, making it more affordable for those customers who don't want to pay for the unused feature.

AT&T subscribers will still be able to use most of the iPhone features including Wi-Fi for browsing, e-mail, and YouTube; calling maintains the same 5,000 night and weekend minutes as well as the 450 daytime minutes.

Disabled features include Visual Voicemail which more than likely ties in with the AT&T data service to download and cache messages on the iPhone.

Visual Voicemail is disabled, however, and likely ties into the use of data service to download and cache messages on the iPhone.

Other requirements of the $40 monthly plan include typical minor service fees with the cost of every SMS message at 25 cents if no seperate text bundle is purchased.

Sounds at&t is letting everyone with the iPhone have the standard cheap $39.99 a month plan; except with expensive SMS. SMS is normally is now 15 cents/msg.

I don't know why they would when you can get an iPhone unlimited data plan for twenty bucks a month and 200 text messages. Also, an iPhone with no unlimited data would be pointless.
