Gmail Not Working on Iphone with Tmobile

well i have evrything almost set up...LOL yeah right. Ok well its not to bad. i just got the phone and in 2 hours i am set up with Tmobile, outlook, wifi at home. and now trying to get gmail set up and i keep getting error messages.

"the imap server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "incomingmail server" field."

when i enter all the setting i also get a error message saying;

"Cannot connect to ssl"
do you wish to set up the account without SSL? (YES OR NO)

WHAT DO I DO?

any ideas?
