Freedom has a price in Germany
November 23rd, 2007I have been keeping track of the legal news coming out of Germany concerning the iPhone and its exlusive contract with T-Mobile. Well it looks like the courts in Germany agree that it is wrong to force someone to buy a contract with the iPhone and has ordered T-Mobile to sell the iPhone both without a contract and an unlocked sim.
Good news right? Wrong, in response t-Mobile has jacked the price of the unlocked iPhone up a few hundred dollars, so while you can indeed get an unlocked iPhone it will cost you a pretty penny if you don’t want the T-Mobile service plan.
However I am optimistic this will eventually lead to a more open iPhone.
