Google: 50x More Searches For iPhone Than Rivals
February 14th, 2008
Speaking at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Google’s head of mobile operations told the Financial Times that iPhone related searches were as high as 50x that of other mobile handsets,”We thought it was a mistake and made our engineers check the logs again.”
“The world is changing. Users want an internet without fences. They know how to type in Google.com if they want to get to it,” Gundotra said. “Two years ago the operators were still playing the role of gateĀkeepers but that is no longer the role for them.”
Gundotra went on to reiterate Google’s viewpoint on focusing more on it’s Android mobile operating system then any actual handset device, “We are ultimately talking about thousands of devices”.
Google has already managed to recruit some 34 partners for its Android OS as part of an alliance to help develop the system. The first of the Android products are sceduled for release in Q4 of 2008.
