According to the Wall Street Journal Apple has snapped up 20% of the cell phone industry profits while only holding a tiny 1% of the market share. Research in Motion has come in second by snagging an estimated 18% of hardware profits and 2% of total unit sales. The main reason for out of this world profits is Apple supposedly receives about $400 in carrier subsidy for each iPhone sold. Apple is set to report earnings after the bell tomorrow. I believe with the release of the new iPhone 3GS these estimated numbers are just to low and Apple will blow out these numbers. We will have more tomorrow so stay tuned!

Apple would do well to disengage from exclusivity with AT&T. It will gain more users of the iPhone.
