iPhone Grabs 28% Of The Smartphone Market in Q4 Of 2007

February 5th, 2008

iphone-uk.jpgA recent report conducted by canalys.com show the Apple iPhone claimed some 28% of the Smartphone market during the fourth quarter of last year.

The report also mentioned that during 2007 smart mobile device shipments were up 58% over 2006 hitting some 118 million shipped devices.

Apple are currently working on their target of 10 million iPhone sales by the end of 2008 and have recently given this a boost by announcing a higher capacity 16GB iPhone version.

Smartphones and wireless handhelds together had risen 60% to reach 115 million during the course of 2007.

“When you consider that it launched part way through the year, with limited operator and country coverage, and essentially just one product, Apple has shown very clearly that it can make a difference and has sent a wakeup call to the market leaders,” said Pete Cunningham, Canalys senior analyst. “What it must demonstrate now is that it can build a sustainable business in the converged device space, expanding its coverage and product portfolio. It will also need to ensure that the exclusive relationships that got it so far so quickly do not prove to be a limit on what it can achieve.”
