Does Apple Patent Suggest Advanced iPhone Multi-Touch?

February 19th, 2008

This 2007 patent application by Apple suggests that the company may be developing some even more intuitive and advanced multi-touch controls for their iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

Entitled, “Gesturing with a multipoint sensing device” the patent suggests that the new technology could be used to perform copy/past, cut, redo and select all fucntions from the multi-touch. An added function will also enable users to use their thumb and index finger simultaneously to create new files and/or open existing ones.

There are also a number of functions reserved for interaction with the ‘pinky’ finger, could Apple be developing a touch pad capable of deciphering between different finger usages through sensitivity and locations?
