It appears that evidence to suggest that the iPhone 3.0 will include 'voice control' has surfaced from code within the iPhone 3.0 OS beta code.
Codenamed "Jibbler", the voice control features will apparently add both voice synthesis and voice recognition support to the iPhone 3.0 OS.
Jibbler will also connect directly to the iPhone SpringBoard application that is responsible for displaying app icons and launching applications.
In addition to iPhone SpringBoard support, Jibbler will also include support for Spotlight Search that will be included in the iPhone 3.0 software.
There is also the possibility that it will also be controlled by use of the iPhone headset.
Here's arundown of the classes and methods discovered ('SB' is a reference to the SpringBoard, and VS is believed to be a reference to a new 'Voice Services' class):
- VSSpeechSynthesizer
- VSRecognitionSession
- SBVoiceControlDisableHandlerActions
- SBSensitiveJibblerEnabled
- SBVoiceControlSoundCompletion

Potentially very useful addition to the iPhone OS, but i think the name “Jibbler” sounds horrible.

Any date when this will be available? Who cares what the name is, as long as it actually works.
