iPhone VPN Support From Check Point

April 28th, 2008

Apple iPhoneCheck Point Software Technologies have today unveiled support for the Apple iPhone through their VPN-1 Virtual Private Networking (VPN) software tool.

The VPN-1 software allows a secure internet communication for the iPhone using the iPhone’s embedded Layer 2 Transport Protocol (L2TP) client. This will enable iPhones to communicate with enterprises that use Check Point’s VPN-1 software, without the need of any additional software to be installed.

Administrators will also have the ability to create specific login credentials for individual iPhone users along with the possibility of assigning users a shared secret password and certificate for the network.

does it mean it’s not working yet ?

Yes, it is working … kind of. It works with VPN-1 Edge devices and Safe@Office devices, but last I checked, I can’t connect to any of my VPN-1 firewalls with it. I worked with SofaWare for quite some time to get it working with their units, so I suspect there is a bug in VPN-1 preventing it from working.
