Pocket Gamer is reporting today that John Carmack, co-creator of Doom, has told Kotaku that he wants to bring his forthcoming major console release Rage to the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. Speaking after accepting his Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 Game Developer Choice Awards, Carmack, who has always been a big supporter of the iPhone, had this to say to Kotaku:
“We are certainly expecting to have our Rage title on iPhone and iPad. There’s this wonderful enjoyment of doing an iPhone game where it’s basically me going off some place and doing all the programming work myself.”
Quite how the game will be adapted for the Apple handhelds is presumably not even in the planning stages, as the PS3 and Xbox versions don’t even have a release date yet, so we’re in for a long wait for what publisher id Software is calling: “An all-new take on the first-person shooter” and “a shooter unlike any other”.
