Locked back into using EDGE
November 28th, 2007Well, it appears that the option to remove your iPhone data plan is no longer. Well, you know what they say, “all good things must come to an end.”
When attempting to remove it, you are brought up to this screen. When chatting with a representative, users are reporting (in the comments of my original post) that they won’t let you remove the plan.
However, the $20 plan has not been put back on my bill. I’m wondering if it ever will.
So, this got me to thinking. Did AT&T intentionally post this option and then back out of it after it became widely known? Or was it just a mistake in the first place?
Whatever the case may be, you’re stuck with EDGE again.

I just got off the phone with 3 different AT&T reps, including a manager. Apparently they’re adding EDGE back on to everyone that canceled it. They’re being very firm about it being part of the iPhone contract, can’t cancel it, etc. The manager even told me that they’re auditing their system to make sure that iPhone accounts have the EDGE data plan on them and will add it on to those who don’t. She even said that the rep who canceled the data plan for me in the first place will get a “warning” about it and that they’re going to make sure that reps know not do concel the data plans. In short–crap.
