Have you ever wanted to leap across tall buildings, perform death-defying stunts thousands of feet up in the air, free run around rooftops like those people on adverts do? No? Me neither. That’s what we have video games for, so that we don’t have to actually do that sort of dangerous thing in real life! Last year’s PS3, PC and Xbox 360 game Mirror’s Edge is a perfect example. Game heroine Faith Connors, a member of an underground messenger group known as Runners, runs and jumps across skyscrapers to her heart’s content, while you get to sit and watch the lovely view from the safety of your armchair. This incredibly free-flowing and innovative game won several major awards this year, including Best Xbox 360 Game in Leipzig, and IGN’s Best Action Game at E3. No surprise then, that EA has decided to port the game over to the iPhone fairly swiftly. If handled right, the fluid, acrobatic movements could work perfectly with the iPhone’s touch screen controls. Imagine having Faith running up the side of a skyscraper and performing all sorts of acrobatics, controlled with just a flick of your finger. Judging by these screenshots, EA has made a great job of capturing the beauty of the original game for the small screen, and the iTunes release will hopefully ensure that it reaches a whole new audience who might have missed it the first time around.
Mirror’s Edge will be released to the iTunes store in January 2010.
