Going by these eye-popping screenshots, the cars in the iPhone/iPod Touch version of Need for Speed SHIFT actually look better than my car does in real life! And they don’t have moss growing on the sides of them either! (Note to self: get car cleaned.) If it plays as good as it looks, and judging by early customer reviews on iTunes it most certainly does, Need for Speed SHIFT could well be the best iPhone driving game to date. Players get to drive 20 licensed Supercars in total, including the BMW M3 GT2, Lamborghini Gallardo and Pagani Zonda, and also have the opportunity to upgrade and customize their car’s performance and styling features. Once you’ve got your Supercar exactly how you like it, you can put it through its paces on 18 street tracks, including Chicago, London and Tokyo, in either Quick Race or Career Mode. Added to that, there are a total of 6 available multiplayer modes across local WiFi and live Bluetooth. What appeals to me most is the fact that it’s up to you how you want to drive in the game, you can be as reckless and crazy or as well-behaved as you like, depending on your mood.
Need for Speed SHIFT is available from the iTunes Store from 18th December for £5.99/$9.99.
