iPhone 2.0 Demand #10: Multiple send Instant Message

November 7th, 2007

What do LG, Motorolla, and Nokia all have in common?

You can send one text message to multiple recipients at the same time.

Now for the million dollar question what does iPhone not have in common with these three cell phone makers? If you guessed that you can’t send one text message to everyone on your contact list at one time you are right. For the life of me I really can’t think of why not, I mean didn’t Apple do tons of market research, compare their phone to other phones? Maybe this is just another easy to overlook thing such as the cut and paste as I discussed the the first top 15 blog.

Maybe the engineers don’t have enough contacts to ever discover how nice this feature is. Whatever the case, Apple it would be awesome if you could provide the ability for me to text everyone at one time.

Hackers Vs 02 who will win the hack war?

November 7th, 2007

hacker.JPG

Man the iPhone is just too cool. Not just because of the item itself, but because playing our before our eyes is an unparalleled drama between the forces of freedom and the oppressive reign of tyranny.

On one side you have the corporate juggernauts of Apple, AT$T and now UK’s very own 02, on the other, the quick minded, quick fingered and most of all daring hackers who have gone public with the statement that they will introduce a jailbreak hack for the UK iPhone within hours of its release.

Are the hackers maybe being a little to optimistic? After all the corporate big wigs have all made sure to put a lot of effort into securing the iPhone and its unique service agreement. However I think that they may be able to pull it off. After all, the iPhone technology will remain largely intact despite the overseas trip, and we have had the thing unlocked for quite a while now here in the states.

Another thing that I think is going for the hackers is the fact that not only has 02 and Apple thrown down the gauntlet by stating that they are ready to counteract any hacking attempts (yeah okay and that is why unlocked phones are all over in the US) but imagine the prestige that will be given to the hacker to get their jailbreak hack out first!

I don’t know about the rest of you but I know I am going to be scanning every bit of news and blog traffic I can find to see who wins. In fact starting tomorrow I think I will start a count down post that will update the progress of this mighty battle so you all can keep in the loop as freshly as possible.

Keep an eye out and most of all feel free to leave comments and discuss this in our forums.

Unlimited iPhone ringtones…for a small fee

November 6th, 2007

Many know about Apple’s wrongdoings with ringtones. They charge for something they shouldn’t be charging for. This is where iToner steps in.gallery_2486_27_4439.jpg

iToner is a $15, Mac-only software that lets you create your own ringtones. It is simply drag-and-drop. No hacks required.

My thought is whether it is worth the price.  In the long run, I suppose. I might get a few ringtones from the iTunes Store, probably not enough to end up paying more than $15.

For those who want the flexibility of making a ringtone out of anything, or making a lot of ringtones, iToner is the way to go.

Simple DVD to iPhone video conversion

November 6th, 2007

While downloading movies from the iTunes Store is nice, they don’t have much to offer. If you want a favorite DVD on your iPhone, handbrake.jpg is the best option.

HandBrake is an open-source application for Mac, Linux, and Windows that converts DVDs into a file your iPod/iPhone can read.

Using HandBrake couldn’t be simpler. Pop in your DVD, choose the iPhone preset, and let it go. One of the downsides is that it can take a painfully long time– I would suggest letting it work overnight if you’re importing a feature film.

That aside, HandBrake is the easiest way to get your movies onto your iPhone.

AppSnap adds some new goodies

November 6th, 2007

appsnap.jpgSo as if the Applesnap jailbreak (a super cool hack that allows the user to install third party apps) hack wasn’t already awesome, the people who came out with it have found a way to improve it.

Now you can actually find the root menu to check to see what happened if something went wrong, there is a progress indicator when Safari restarts (a necessary part of the process), and they have created a way to easily add changes once the exploit for frimware 1.1.2 is discovered.

You can learn more about this nice upgrade here.

Another iPhone accessory that I want: PED3 Rotating Stand

November 6th, 2007

ped3_iphone_stand_front.jpgI was browsing around for something to write about today when I found this little accessory. I got to say the PED3 rotating stand is one of the coolest looking things I have ever seen.

With its sleek look, curved arms and alien like looking fingers I would be happy to have this little piece of equipment on my desk even when the iPhone wasn’t in it. Not only does it look awesome but it also has a great use, allowing me to actually not have to hold my iPhone with the other hand.

While I thought the belt clip I talked about a few days ago was neat, this thing absolutely is a must have. The only problem is that I wish it came in more colors. However that is a small price to pay for something this neat looking.

I hope you all like this, and also feel free to point us towards other cool and useful accessories.

iPhone 2.0 Demand #11: Video Capture

November 6th, 2007

If a picture is worth a thousand words, than a video clip is worth ten thousand.  Or at least it would be if I could actually make one with my iPhone.  I don’t know how many times I have saw or done something that I wish I could of taped.  Or how many times one of my buddy’s antics would of made great youtube material, but unfortunately all these precious moments are at best a goofy picture and at worst a poorly told story by yours truly.

Now of course I realize that adding a video capture ability to the iPhone may be no easy task, but honestly I am surprised they didn’t start out with this.  Imagine how awesome of a sales point it would be if I sent a video of something to a computer bound friend with my iPhone!  I mean heck if I got an iPhone video in my email I would probably be tempted to go out and get one, because honestly I almost never have my video clip enabled digital camera on me, but I have my cell phone on me all the time.

Think about it Apple, it could be a big thing.

Hints of a Canadian iPhone

November 6th, 2007

1867976836_d6bdee0ea8_o.jpg

It seems some information may have been leaked on a Canadian Apple Store’s website. It displays an “iPhone: Getting Started Workshop” on November the 10th. Oops.

I just think that’s way too early without notice. Surly, if in fact it was being released that early, Apple would have let the folks in Canada know.

UK hackers are you ready? 02 worries that you just may be

November 5th, 2007

union-jack.JPG02 the service carrier for the iPhone had initially set limits on its “unlimited” data use offering. However as both customers and hackers became very vocal in just how much they dissaproved of this limiting of a supposedly unlimited feature, 02 has backpedaled slightly and announced that they intend to raise the limit to make their customers happy. I actually have to wonder if they are not more than just worried that hacking will become very big and they could loose millions of dollars from people who buy the iPhone but unlock it to use another service provider instead? Whatever the case strike one for ease of restrictions.
