iPhone Firmware 2.0 Jailbreak

March 12th, 2008

iphone.jpgMany current iPhone users have been a little concerned about June’s iPhone 2.0 formware release and whether they’ll be able to use their jailbroken iPhones anyway.

Well the clever guys at iPhone Dev Team have successfuly jailbroken the 2.0 firmware. After getting their hands on the 1.2 firmware bundled with the SDK (1.2 will be released as 2.0 to the public in June), they managed to decrypt the disk image and jailbreak the firmware.

It is possible that Apple may tweak the 2.0 firmware before it’s June release but given this recent news we’re sure the hackers will be on top of things.

Copy and Paste For iPhone, Well Kinda

March 12th, 2008

iphone.jpgA copy and paste function for the iPhone has to be one of the most requested additions to the device since it’s release. Well thanks to a little tool called iCopy that request has been partially filled.

Created by Preston Monroe, iCopy is a simple bookmarklet workaround, which allows you  to copy from a web page into a cookie which can then be pasted into another web page or even into a new email.

iCopy isn’t perfect, but it’s a good start. Obviously this only works in Safari and its integrated Mail app.

iPhone 2.0 Features Revealed

March 8th, 2008

iphone.jpgBuried inside the Apple developer documentation is a brief rundown on some of the new features we can expect to see in June’s iPhone 2.0 release. These same features are also available in the “Aspen Emulator” bundled with the iPhone SDK which also carries the OS version 1.2.

Bonjour
Full support for bonjour (Apple’s zero configuration networking scheme) will be included in iPhone OS 2.0. This allows you to discover and connect with other nearby iPhones. Bonjour is available in the foundation, core foundation and base system includes. This feature was existent but dormant in previous iPhone OS releases.

Full-screen mode in Safar
This means that Web apps can be displayed without the Safari address bar and other elements. With an appropriate meta tag, a Web app launched from the home screen can automatically be launchd in full-screen mode.

Support for SVG
(scalable vector graphics 1.1.): a resolution-independent image format that is highly compressible

A series of new CSS effects
Some of which are hardware accelerated, for transforms, transitions and animations
