It seems my article on removing the data plan from your iPhone has sparked controversy (and popularity.)
If you disabled EDGE (like I explained previously), you didn't get rid of all internet, you just got rid of paying for the internet.
By default, you are placed on a pay-by-the-kilobyte data plan. No one wants that. Accidental weather widget launch? That'll cost.
Here is a quick tip on how to not be in debt by the time your cell phone bill comes: call AT&T and ask them to block internet from your phone. It's that easy. Now, if you try to access EDGE, you can't, and that means you won't be charged.

thank you for the heads up.my verizon contract is ending in january and i am seriously considering switching to att for the sole purpose of getting the iphone. i live in nyc and i’m not too happy with att’s service here, but, i figured that wi-fi coverage should be more than sufficient for going online and what not. if i opt out of the data plan and rely only on wi-fi and block out internet from the iphone, should i still expect to be charged for any kilobytes? thanks in advance.
