Too Many Mobile Operating Systems Hampering Application Development?

February 13th, 2008

iphone-uk.jpgSpeaking at the Mobile World Congress, Vodafone’s Chief Arun Sarin commented that the sheer amount of mobile operating systems on the market is preventing many developers from writing applications that could help end users.

There are currently some 30-40 operating systems available on the market, with developer’s usually only allowed to choose one or a few to work with, “Note, I didn’t say one!” Sarin added, alluding to Microsoft’s Windows monopoly in the computer industry.

Sarin commented that although the iPhone did introduce yet another operating system to the arena it also “raised the bar” for what is now possible with a user interface.
