Using EDGE without unlimited data plan…

December 2nd, 2007

YouTube user “clblvdr” recently posted a video about his iPhone bill that can be found here. Basically what happened was that he tried upgrading his text message plan but somehow his data plan got lost in the process. He mindlessly used EDGE all he wanted– thinking he had unlimited data the whole time. It was quite a surprise when he saw his bill that added up to almost $5,000.

Here’s a tip for those who have intentionally removed their EDGE data plan like I have: call AT&T and have them block EDGE, prevent charges such as this.  I highlighted this method with this post.

You don’t have to have AT&T block Edge, if you have updated your iPhone to v1.1.3 because you now have under Settings/General/Network/ Data Roaming OFF option to disable the edge networking portion of the phone. My question if you didn’t want the Edge service why not just get an iPod Touch but @$20/month why not take full advantage of the iPhone. My $60/mo (AT&T) plan on my Notebook doesn’t perform any better than my iPhone it only has a much larger screen to look at.
