New Apple Policy Offers Water Damaged iPhone Exchange for $199
Dan

A new unadvertised Apple iPhone policy has been discovered that will offer replacement handsets (for a one off fee of $199) to customers with water damaged iPhone devices.

According to sources the iPhone policy covers out-of-warranty incidents that would normally require the purchase of a new iPhone handset.

Customers with water damaged handsets will see them exchanged for a factory refurbished model which they can then use to transfer their SIM card across to from the damaged phone.

It is currently being speculated that Apple's recent policy change in regards to water damage is a means for the company to clear out their current inventory of iPhone 3G models ahead of new models expected in the summer.

God FORBID… this policy should reflect care for their users, instead of simply wanting to clear out older inventory… Might that be speculated too?

That’s fantastic news. I had a problem with water damage a while back, but it was a unique case: I had to jump into a pond to save a kid from drowning, and my iPhone was still in my pocket. My girlfriend called Apple for me (obviously no phone for me), and the rep went and talked to her supervisor, and within fifteen minutes, the water-damage policy was excepted. They gave a case number to give to the Genius Bar when I went in. There was no hassle, nothing. When I got to the Apple store, they replaced my SIM card, handed me a new iPhone, and I went along my merry way.

Though this is a fantastic way for everyday water-damage. I just wanted people to know if there ARE extenuating circumstances involved with your water damage (not just “oops! It went in the toilet!”), that Apple will indeed make exceptions to policy.
